Two trees, Two men
Two trees changed the human race forever. When the first humans sinned, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil destroyed mankind. After ages passed, a New Adam came and died on a tree to give us new life with Him and the Father. It is amazing how God can use things to complete His plan of mercy. One man brought sin into the world, but God used another man to bring new life. I love how Paul describes this comparison in 1st Corinthians 15:22
For Paul, the human race was divided into two groups in the persons of Adam and Christ. Those who remain a part of Adam are the "old" humanity. They bear the image of the "man of dust" and partake of his sin and alienation from God and creation. But those who are a part of Christ by faith become Christ's "body". They are re-created in Christ's image. They become one "new man". They also partake of the new creation. The old barriers raised by Adam are removed by Christ. For Paul, the similarity of Adam and Christ as human representatives meant that Christ had restored what Adam had lost.
This weekend we need to remember to CELEBRATE that Christ was nailed to a tree to bring us life and make us new creations.
